Katharina Juhn (nee Blechschmidt), age 96, of Chicago, passed away on December 10, 2021. She was born May 29, 1925, in the German town of Liebling, Romania, to Karl and Katharina (nee Möwius) Blechschmidt. As WWII ended, she relocated to Austria with her parents. There she met her late husband, Heinrich Juhn, from Schidski Banovci, Yugoslavia. They immigrated to the US in 1951. Katharina is survived by their children, Christina (William) Guswiler of Chicago and Heinrich (Diane) Juhn of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and grandchildren, Ellen Guswiler, Samantha (Sam) Flood, and Garrett Juhn. Katharina was predeceased by her brother Karl Blechschmidt.
Her beloved husband Heinrich passed away in 1975, after 25 years of marriage. In 1985 she married the late Friedrich “Fritz” Gerold of Kitchener, Ontario. She resided in Canada for 17 years, enjoying her retirement with him and the many friends they had. She is survived by Fritz’s daughter Eva (John) Emrich of Sarnia, Ontario; granddaughters Lisa (Stephen) Baldock and Stephanie (Andrew) Lo; great-grandchildren, John, Emma, and Isabelle Baldock, all of Ontario.
Upon Fritz’s death in 2002, Katharina returned to Chicago where she was again in the fold of her family and her friends in the Lieblinger Club of Chicago, of which she was a member for 70 years.
Katharina was hard-working, purposeful, and tenacious, never leaving a task undone. She was dedicated to her family, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed baking, sewing and homemaking. She was happiest doing for others.
Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions to a charity of your choice in her memory would be appreciated.
