Karle Robert Meyer, 72, lifelong resident of Chicago, passed away on May 3, 2016 surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Carol, nee Papciak for 48 years; loving father of Kevin (Meridith) and Jeffrey (Melissa); adored grandfather of Ryan Allen. Fond brother-in-law of Florian (Theresa) Pytlewicz.; loving uncle of Andy Pytlewicz, Cindy Pytlewicz, Goddaughter Beth Cairns, John Pytlewicz, Marc Pytlewicz, Michele Ebele, Gina (Joe) Tenuto, Michele Kasper and Lisa (Dan) Mytnik; great uncle of Geneva Rygel and great great uncle of Simone, Racquel and Scarlett; ‘adopted’ brother of Patricia Alberts and sister-in-law Joan (Ronald) Polka; loving member of the Papciak family; cousin of Carole (the late Glenn) Skoog, Dorothy (Nick) Bavarro, and Sue (the late Roger) Smith, Amy (Romero) Sanchez and Mary Beth (Norman) Chapel, their children and grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents Harry and Dorothy (Wilson) Meyer, brother Earle (Joann, nee Cicero), Roy (Ramona) Meyer, Robert (Marge) Meyer, daughter-in-law Tina Meyer, sister-in-law Vicki Meyer, and mother-in-law Helen Papciak. Dog-dad of the late Dutchess and Sam; dog-grandpa of Daisy, Abby and Norman.
Karle attended Morse Grade School, North Park Academy, Wright Junior College and Worsham College of Mortuary Science. He dedicated his entire career to serving families as a funeral director and embalmer at several Chicago area funeral homes, including owning and operating Hursen Funeral Home at 929 Belmont Avenue in Chicago and 23 years with SCI. He was a proud member of Teamsters Local 727 for over 40 years.
He enjoyed his pontoon boat, the daily crossword puzzle, Walt Disney World, Wisconsin State Fair, Saturday date night movies, our beloved Chicago Cubs, Bears and Blackhawks, and his family most of all.
Visitation Monday, May 9, 3 to 9pm at Malec and Sons Funeral Home, 6000 N. Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, IL 60646. Funeral Tuesday, May 10, beginning with prayers at the funeral home at 10:15am proceeding to Saint Robert Bellarmine Church for Mass at 11am.
