Joseph Geraci, 86, passed away suddenly August 18, 2022. He was preceded in death by his adored wife Virginia, whom he loved dearly from their high school days through 63 years of marriage. Joseph was the beloved father of Susan (Tim) Polutnik and Karen Geraci; father-in-law to Thomas Huttner; cherished grandfather to Bryan (Kate) Huttner, Kate (Brian) DiPaola, David (Toni) Huttner, Chloe (Robert) Smith, and Nicholas (Erin) Polutnik; loving great-grandfather to Leila, Tyler, Kayden, Giovani, Josephine, Ada, Beth, Fiona, and Graham. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents Thelma (nee Yost) and Carl (Chuck) Geraci; in-laws Pauline (nee Abruzzo) and Bernard Barone; brother David Geraci; and sister-in-law Mary (James) Short. He was a cherished uncle and cousin, and dear friend to many dating back to grade school days.
Joseph was a veteran of the United States Army (1954-1956) and was stationed at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska. He retired from the City of Chicago Streets and Sanitation Demolition Department in 1997. He was fondly remembered as a great baseball and 16” softball first-baseman, and played on many local teams in the Chicago area as a young man.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 23rd from 4pm – 8pm. Prayer and Eulogy Service at 6:30pm, followed by Military Honors. Montclair-Lucania Funeral Home, 6901 W. Belmont Avenue, Chicago.
