Lived right across the street from John on Elizabeth St.  Went to St. John of God school with John and have many good memories of playing together in his backyard, Sherman Park and the schoolyard. 
Lot of softball and fast pitch days were shared with John. Great guy and family. Always looked forward to spending time with John.

I first had the privilege of meeting John  as 
Freshmen in September, 1961 at St Ignatius.
My first & continuing impression of John 
was that he was "really a nice, friendly guy" 
& terrifically handsome, with his big smile.

Only today did I hear about John's passing.
I remember seeing John at a recent Ignatius 
reunion & it was a treat to speak with him. 

John was a" special guy" 
that will be missed by all  his Ignatius classmates.

My memories of John centered where we met as part time stock-boys for Sears at 62nd & Western.
He went to St. Ignatius and I went to St. Rita. We became fast friends and that friendship continued into our separate college years as well. During the Blizzard of 1967, we got snowed in at Sears. Since John lived the closest on Elizabeth Street, he invited myself and our boss to spend the night at his house. We did and got to meet his wonderful mother and beautiful sister, Kathy. John was a very giving person with an infectious smile. He is surly missed. My sincere condolences to his entire family. Joe Marks

       My memories of John center around St. John of God School in the Back of the Yards Neighborhood on Chicago’s south side.  John was a classmate of my brother, Ronald Samuel (who left this world in 2014), and John’s sister Kathy was my classmate and still is a dear friend.  I remember spending happy times at their home on Elizabeth Street.  
        I also remember John as being good, kind, intelligent, nice to everyone, as well as handsome with dimples and a twinkle in his eyes.
        The wonderful photos posted in these memorials bring to life the legacy of love and life that John leaves behind.  It was good to learn that John passed peacefully,
surrounded by family, no longer feeling pain, knowing he was loved.  It’s what most of us would hope for when our time comes.
         God bless John, and may it bring comfort to his family to know that he is well remembered and prayed for by so many people. My husband and I, plus our church Family at North Lake Chapel in Lisbon Florida have been keeping John and Pat in our prayers for a while now.

I remember all the good time we had all together at moms and dads house. Now your in heaven with dad, Ron and Len sharing a beer together again, just like old times.  You will be missed by a lot of people, your smile was the best and you always had something nice to say to people. 
 For the family you left behind, they will always carry u in there hearts forever.

We were lucky enough to meet John a few years back. We have been friends with his wife Pat for many years. Pats daughter   has a yearly BBQ and we’ve always loved our time with John and Pat!

John was in my class all four years at St. Ignatius. I remember a great young man with an infectious grin that always made you smile. He was always a team person and leader in all our activities. 
May his family cherish the good he gave in his life. I extend my deepest condolences.

John Stec was my first new friend in 1961 when we both entered   St. Ignatius College Prep as freshmen after which we spent 4 years in the same classroom together. During our adult years, John and I sustained our friendship by staying in touch and maintaining our association with St. Ignatius. John was great student; an outstanding member of the track team; funny; and a great friend to so many. Throughout his life, John never lost his welcoming personality, his charm, his kindness, and his positive disposition towards everyone he encountered. On behalf of the entire St. Ignatius "Class of 1965," John and his family will be in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. John will be missed by us all; especially me!    Dan Walsh
