John F. Newman Jr.

John F. Newman Jr. passed on Sunday, August 20th. Loving husband of Mary (née Fishwick). Father of Jennifer and John (Rachel), dearest Papa of Taylor Marie and Jackson James. Preceded in death by his parents John and Julia (née Mizialko), sister Elizabeth and brother William (Mary Anne). Survived by many nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in Chicago, he attended Belding Grammar School and Schurz High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He went on to Northern Illinois University, graduating with a Bachelors in Education. He proudly served his country as a member of the Navy from 1970-1977. On February 8, 1975, he married the love of his life Mary and affectionately called her his bride until his passing. He worked for the City of Chicago for over 25 years and worked the night shift to make sure that his family was provided for.

He loved playing 16" softball, until he traded in his bat and ball for a fishing pole and bowling ball. He continued his love of sports by coaching his son, Johnny, and watching him play football, basketball, softball, volleyball, bowling, tennis, and baseball. Whether it was gymnastics, dance, sports, or pageants he supported his daughter, Jennifer, in whatever she pursued.

He was very proud of his children, but nothing made him smile more than his grandchildren Taylor and Jackson. He and Taylor loved watching Clifford and Dora and taking naps with Vegas and Lambeau, his favorite dogs. Throughout Taylor’s school years he enjoyed watching her perform in musical theatre and playing sports. He was proud when Taylor made the Varsity Lacrosse team as a freshman. John loved seeing the videos of Jackson that Mary took every day and always asked about all his milestones. He and Jackson loved spending time together at family holidays.

John was a devoted White Sox and Green Bay Packers fan.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 7th from 4-8pm at Malec and Sons Funeral Home, 6000 North Milwaukee Avenue. Private Inurnment.
