It seems fitting on this Veterans Day that I should find out about Uncle John's passing. I last spoke to him right before the 70th anniversary of Pearl Harbor and made promises to visit him 'soon'. I regret that I was not more diligent in my efforts. Please know that I often think of the 'Barry' side of my family with much fondness, love and great memories. I know that the Barry brothers are together causing havoc in heaven! RIP Uncle John

I just found out about the passing of Mr. Barry and I am very sad.  Over 20 yrs ago, I had just moved into the neighborhood and Mr. and Mrs Barry welcomed us to the neighborhood.  Mr. Barry was very instrumental in me being active in the BOND (Byron, Oak Park, Normandy and Dakin Streets) group.  He was very active in our community and always willing to help out in any way possible.  He was a terrific neighbor!

Our condolences to the Barry Family.  I will miss seeing him in the neighborhood.  May John rest in peace.

To Mrs. Barry and the Barry Family. We are so sorry for you loss. John was such a wonderful person in so many many ways. Family, Friends, Veterans, the CPD - God Rest his soul. We just heard this yesterday at the Mayor's Veterans Advisory Council Meeting. We were shocked to hear this. We had a moment of slience to remember John and all he did for the WW II Veterans and other Veterans in the City of Chicago. All the time and ceremonies at Navy Pier on Dec. 7th, for so many years. He will be trully missed. You are all in our prayers.

Deepest sympathies to the Barry family.  Mr. Barry was instrumental in the Monument restoration project at Monument Park.  His legacy will live on in Edison Park.

Sgt. Barry was the nicest man. I met him when I was ten years old in 1963 at the Chicago Police Sergeant's Association Golf Outing at St. Andrew's. He was close friends with my father, Sgt. Richard M. Barrett, who was President of the CPSA during the 1960's. Mr. Barry was always smiling and worked hard year after year at that golf outing. John was my Sgt. in 1972, when I first became a detective.  He was helpful and understanding as a supervisor and a pleasure to work for.  I am sorry for your loss.

I worked with Sgt. Barry at Area Six in the 1970s.  There was no finer or classier man than Sgt. Barry.  He had a long retirement and I hope every day was wonderful.  He certainly deserved it.

Jack, did so much for so many that it would take a the size of a novel to write down everything. Thinking and praying for Vickie and all family members.Sorry I couldn't be at the services but I was able to recognize some of Jack's life on the house floor.

John Barry was a beloved figure who lived in our neighborhood, our business was right down the block from his home. He was the Sheriff and CEO of our neighborhood and made sure that everything ran the right way. He can never be replaced, we will miss him greatly, he was a great American, may God rest his soul in peace.

Uncle John will always be in our prayers. We were honored to attend the Pearl Harbor memorial each year to honor him and the other survivors. He will be missed by ALL that knew him.

Jack was a great man and a good friend.  He loved his wife and family, he worked hard, he gave of himself to his community, to his veterans and his country.  He was a man of integrity and always willing to go out of his way to help someone.  I will miss you, my friend, as will so many.  I know you are already running around with "Jimmy D", and Heaven is a better place.
