Harvey was born to Harvey and Lucille Dytch in Chicago on March 10, 1943. He graduated from Von Steuben Metropolitan High School and earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of Chicago. He worked for the University for over forty years in various departments, most recently as a computer programmer for the Department of Human Genetics.
Harvey was a veteran, having enlisted in the Navy after being drafted in 1964. He served aboard the U.S.S. Brumby for four years as a sonar technician.
In December of 1969, Harvey married Meredith Darby, whom he had met in January of 1963 at Twist Party at the U of C. Harvey had a lifelong interest in music, played the french horn and piano, and enjoyed composing. He was also interested in making digital art, and appreciated a good meal and a good joke.
Preceding Harvey in death are his parents Harvey and Lucille.
Harvey will be missed by his loving wife Meredith; his cherished sister Gail (Howard) Schaffner; his adoring nieces Paula (Greg) Diethrich and Stacey (John) Slavin; his beloved grandnephews Liam and Evan Diethrich, and Kyle, Eric and Adam Slavin; as well as his precious grandniece, Emma Slavin.
A memorial service will be scheduled in the future.
