Graduated from the University of Chicago with a degree in English Language and Literature in 1964. Received Juris Doctor from Washington & Lee University School of Law in Lexington, Virginia in 1969. Career span with the Cook County Public Defender’s office in Chicago, IL from 1970 to retirement in 1998, with a 3 year break in service from 1976 to 1979 while in private law practice in Dixon, IL.
Loved son of Tatter and George Nichols (both deceased). Beloved by wife of 28 years, Coleta (Colly) Nichols, brother Peter (Jody) Nichols M.D., of San Marino, CA, brother Henry (Beth) Nichols of Dixon, IL, sister Nancy Nichols of Dixon IL and Chicago, IL, stepchildren Vanessa (Chuck) Nunley of Wheaton, IL and Raymond (Deborah) Marker of Acworth, GA, grandson, Nicholas Nunley of Wheaton IL, granddaughters Amanda Nunley of Wheaton, IL and Margaret Marker of Acworth, GA, aunts, Nancy (Chris) Warner M.D., of Pasadena, CA and Louise Warner PhD (deceased), nephews Peter (Arshya) Nichols, Jr. M.D., of Chicago, IL, Benjamin (Kambridge) Nichols M.D., of San Francisco, CA, Jeffrey Fritts of Dixon, IL and niece Cristin (Jeff) Carr of Dixon, IL., and many beloved great nieces and nephews.

Visitation from 3 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at Drake and Son Funeral Home, 5303 N. Western Ave, Chicago, IL. At 10 am on Friday, January 31, 2014, at Drake and Son Funeral Home, remembrances will be shared by family and friends. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon, IL at a later date.
