Edward Negron, age 50, of Chicago, Illinois passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021. Edward was born November 29, 1970. Ed was a lifelong resident of Chicago and longtime resident and activist in Northalsted (formerly Boystown).
Ed graduated from Carl Schurz High School and attended Harold Washington College, he received his certification in Sign Language and was a certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor. As an avid activist, Ed was a part of the LGBT Homeless Youth and substance abusers; AIDS Foundation of Chicago; Association for Latino Men for Action (AMLA); Bisexual, Queer Alliance Chicago (Co Founder); Chicago Boys Troop; Chicago Crystal Meth Task Force; Chicago Task Force on LGBT Substance Use and Abuse; Compassion Action; Equality Illinois; International Mr. Leather (IML); and Orgullo en Accion.
The various awards Ed received include being inducted in the Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame 2006; CoFounder of Bisexual Queer Alliance Chicago 2010; The Mankind Project; and received the White House Coin. Ed's passion was photography and he freelanced covering various events and private engagements and he was employed at Leather 64Ten, receiving employee of the year in 2020 and 2021.
Ed is survived by his mother Osnaida Rodriguez, his siblings, Ivette Rodriguez- Aponte, Ricardo Negron, Leo Negron Rodriguez, Monica Rodriguez, Luis Irizarry, Moses Irizarry, Clarybell Negron Rodriguez, Heriberto Negron Irizarry and Marisabell Negron Irizarry; his nieces and nephews Adrian, Amanda, Ashley, Vanessa, Floryz, Yari, Yovani, Athena and Nathan.
A visitation for Ed will be held Monday, August 2, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Drake & Son Funeral Home, 5303 North Western Ave, Chicago, IL 60625, and again on Tuesday August 3, from 10:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM.
