I first met my sister-in-law Colette when I went to her college graduation with my then boyfriend and now husband who was her older brother Paul.  It was a beautiful day and she was in high spirits.  After the graduation ceremony we went to her dorm room to pack up her belongings which included a ten gallon fish tank to bring home.  Paul was not thrilled about carrying a heavy fish tank down a flight of stairs but Colette couldn't bear losing her fish.  I knew then that she was a soft-hearted sensitive person.  The fish tank was made lighter by taking half of the water out and the fish made it home safely.

That experience defined Colette's personality.  She was sensitive to the needs of pets, friends, family and was always willing to lend a helping hand.  She was there at family parties preparing food, serving food and cleaning up, always with a smile and her hearty laugh.  At our last family party she demonstrated her giving nature by presenting Paul with a classic CD by Dave Brubeck who was one of his favorites.  Again she was all smiles and chuckled at her own cleverness to find that CD.  What a treasured memory she left us with!

Colette, you were an amazing woman. You were a blonde disguised as gray, you had a very contagious laugh and a smile that would light up any room.

Everything feels so empty without you. Your stories, willingness to listen, advice, acceptance of everyone, even your bewilderment at technology, made you that kind of person everyone could love. These are the things that leave such a hole in my heart. I’ve only known you for 47 years but what a great time it has been. You made a cheesecake for me a little bit ago, it’s still in our freezer. Now I can’t move myself to eat it because it’s the last one I’ll ever get from you. You brought happiness and joy to everyone, I know I’m being selfish, but I want more of that for me and others
I know life will go on, but my memories of you will be in my heart.

Your absence is deeply felt, and the void you have left behind is immeasurable. The memories we shared with you will forever be cherished, as they bring both smiles and tears to our faces. Your kindness, generosity, and infectious laughter brightened every room you entered, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing you. You were more than a friend; You were family. You stood by my mother through thick and thin, offering unwavering support and guidance. My sincerest and heartfelt condolences to the Lattyak (& Nevell) Families. Colette was an Angel in disguise. She was always willing to listen, give, help and have a blast with. I remember our late night conversations and pots of coffee at both our houses numerous times, our times collaborating fun stuff as room moms 40 years ago, you & Al watching and taking care of the kids when I delivered Ryan & Traci (& me telling you it’s your turn to have another one 😂), helping us move numerous times (to Debbie’s, to my mother-in-law’s & then finally to Sandy Ln.), yours & Al’s delicious cheesecakes, & so many more precious memories (oh yeah, & me giving you Covid 🫣). I’ll always remember your contagious laugh, crying laugh till we wet our pants. My dear, dear friend, I miss you so much already but I know God only takes the BEST, and that you were. I know too, the fight is over, no more struggles; you are at peace and resting in His hands. Until we meet again, friend. I love you with all my heart.

We were saddened to learn of Colette’s passing. As cousins close in age, we had some fun times growing up. During our adult years, we gravitated to each other sharing pertinent family conversations.

There are no words to express the sadness I feel.  My condolences to Colette's beautiful family. I watched and shared in all the kids growing up and becoming the young adults that Colette was so proud of.  She could not wait to show me the grandkids and how beautiful they are.
I will miss her smiling face, stories, sharing pictures that were dear to her heart, and those delicious cheesecakes.  
She was a very special person to me and all of us.  I was so blessed to call her my friend.  R.I.P. Colette, we loved you so much.
