Carmen N. Rodriguez, 90, passed away on October 4, 2020, from natural causes with her beloved family by her side in her Chicago, Illinois home. Carmen was born on July 16, 1930, in Emiliano Zapata, Durango, Mexico, and immigrated to the United States for a better opportunity in life. She worked tirelessly as a seamstress and enjoyed doing it, for the majority of her life. In her neighborhood, Little Village, she was known for making her delicious tamales from scratch during the Christmas holidays. Christmas Eve was her favorite day of the year as she would be prepared and ready to pray and enchant us at the family gathering with her singing. Oh how we loved her greatest Christmas hits!
Carmen is survived by her sister, Elvia N. Jaime, and her three nephews, Luis Antonio, Osvaldo and his wife Margarita and their 3 children Isabella, Anais and Gabriel, and Alejandro and his wife Marcela and their 2 children Elvia and Yesenia Jaime. She now joins her husband, Emilio Rodriguez, in Heaven along with previously departed family members. She will be missed.
Visitation for Carmen will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2020 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Ridge Funeral Home (Edward A. Tylka Manager/Director), 6620 West Archer Ave, Chicago, IL 60638. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur Friday, October 9, 2020 at 10:30 AM, Our Lady of Tepeyac Church, 3047 W. Cermak Rd, Chicago, IL 60623. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery.

Carmen devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members that lived near and far, including her nephews and niece in Mexico. She took pride in not only taking care of her three nephews who lived with her in Chicago but also taking part in helping to raise all of the neighborhood children for over 3 generations. Her constant vigilance made sure everyone in the neighborhood was safe and that everyone living there was getting what they needed to be happy and healthy. She kept a close watch as she peered through the blinds of the front windows of her second floor apartment. She even kept a set of binoculars on the window’s ledge next to her stool in order to keep a most careful watch. Her interests included spending time with family, gardening, sewing, knitting, and listening to music. She loved doing these things so much that even in her last days, a few family members were fortunate enough to see her dance while no one was looking and also knitting.
