Betty M. Foster
Betty M. Yates Foster (formerly Betty Carr), age 98, of Niles, Illinois; died Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Chicago's Resurrection Hospital , after a short illness. Born on October 1, 1924, in Paris, Illinois, she was the daughter of Lyman P. & Luella G. Yates. Betty was the beloved wife of the late James F. Foster; loving mother of Charles A. Carr (Judith); dear grandmother of Michael A. Hollen (Breanne Miller); and great-grandmother of Antoinette "Nettie" Miller-Hollen.
Betty spent her young years in Paris, Illinois along with her sister and brothers: Fern L. Yates, Lyman P. Yates, Paul W. Yates, and Richard L. Yates. In the early 1930’s the family relocated and became lifelong residents of Chicago - with their father working for the United States Post Office and their mother working in the retail industry, while raising the family. As lifelong Chicago residents the family dearly loved all of the professional sports teams. Betty was especially fond of the Chicago Cubs and waited a lifetime for them to finally win the 2016 World Series. She could tell you every statistic known to man about all of the Cub players and their standings in the baseball world.
Betty married Ramon Ellis Carr and had one son, Charles A. Carr, in Long Beach, California. At a young age, she relocated back to Chicago and raised Charles and worked all of her life as a Telephone Operator for Bell Telephone, Booth Fisheries, North Shore Cleaners, and finally for Nestle's. She was a faithful supporter of the Chicago Moose Lodge. She met and married James F. Foster in November,1968. With the Moose Lodge as a canvas, Betty & James enjoyed the camaraderie and supported many benevolent causes.
Betty was a fabulous cook and baker and always made sure her family was taken care of. She was very loved and such a great mother, grandmother, and now great-grandmother.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Luella G. and Lyman P. Yates, husband James Foster, and four siblings, Fern L. Yates, Lyman Yates, Paul Yates, and Richard Yates.
Betty leaves to mourn her memory, her dear son Charles A. Carr (Judith); grandson Michael A. Hollen (Breanne Miller); and great-granddaughter, Antoinette Marie Miller-Hollen. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and extended family.
Betty was a light to everyone she met and will be missed by those who knew and loved her. The family asks you to share any stories about her and to treasure the memory of her life well lived.
