Bernice Evelina Pawilan was born on August 8th, 1947 to her Polish parents Zenon and Frances in Germany. At the age of 3, she came with her parents to the United States where she flourished as a daughter, sister, aunt, and godmother.
Living in Chicago, she graduated from Jones High School. Professionally, she exhibited an inspiring work ethic and broke barriers becoming the first female sales rep for Dr. Scholl’s. Later in life, she worked at Lamb’s Farm and as a greeter for Marsh Funeral Home supporting and comforting people in both positions.
Of her many memorable and endearing qualities, she may be best remembered for her love and commitment to family. As an older sister to Irene, she was a lifelong friend, laughing and sharing good times and selflessly supporting her through difficult times. As a daughter, she was an angel taking care of Frances until her passing at the age of 91.
As an aunt and godmother she always prioritized time with her nephew, Jason and her niece, Erica. She made their childhood special and, in many ways, extraordinary.
Bernice is survived by both Jason and the Gola family and by Erica and the Anderson family. Her influence and her love live on through them. Her family misses her but will never forget her. Rest in peace with God, Bernice.
A visitation for Bernice will be held Monday, July 1, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Malec & Sons Funeral Home, 6000 North Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60646. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, July 2, 2024 AT 10:00 AM, 6000 North Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60646.
