Ana M. Cabrera, 93, of Chicago, IL, passed away on February 24, 2024. She was born on January 15, 1931 in Pinar del Río, Cuba. Ana was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Ana, known to many of us as Mima, was the heart and soul of our family. Her laughter, her love, and her unwavering spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.
One of the things that made Mima so truly special was her quick wit and her infectious sense of humor. Her witty comments and clever remarks would always bring a smile to our faces, even during the most difficult times. She had a way with words, and she loved to recite her own poetry with passion and flair. Her poetry was a reflection of her vibrant personality and her deep love for life.
Mima was not just a poet; she was a storyteller, an artist, and a dreamer. She had a gift for capturing the beauty of the world around her and sharing it with others through her words. Her poems were filled with love, laughter, and the wisdom that comes from a life well-lived. Through her poetry, she touched the hearts of everyone she met and left behind a legacy of inspiration and creativity.
Family was everything to Mima, and she was the glue that held us all together. Sunday dinners at her house were a cherished tradition when we were young, a time for us to come together as a family and share in each other's company. Mima would always be dressed to impress, her pride and elegance shining through in everything she did. She took great pride in her appearance, and she instilled in us a sense of dignity and grace that will live on in our hearts forever.
Through her love, kindness, and unwavering support, she nurtured and strengthened the bonds that tied us together. She was the matriarch of our family, and her presence brought us comfort, joy, and a sense of belonging.
Despite facing the challenges of Alzheimer's disease and the fear of death, Mima remained resilient and steadfast in her faith. Her unwavering belief in God and the power of prayer sustained her through the darkest of times, and her courage and strength inspired all who knew her.
As we bid farewell to Mima, let us carry her legacy of love, resilience, and faith in our hearts. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will live on in the cherished memories we hold dear and the lessons she imparted to us. Let us honor her memory by living our lives with the same love, compassion, and strength that she exemplified every day.
