William C. “Bill” Wieland, 88, of Chardon, Ohio (formerly Chesterland, Ohio), passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. Bill was the son of the late Frederick and Eudora (nee Gilmore) Wieland. Bill was the devoted husband of 66 years to Audrey M. (nee Zimmerman); loving father of Karen Hazen (Jeff), the late Kathy Wanamaker (Lyn), Leslie Keppler (Marty), Jeff Wieland, Mike Wieland, and Bill Wieland Jr.; cherished grandfather of Jennifer Fay (Dave), Daniel Hazen (Allie), Jordan Hazen (Jess), Sam Wanamaker, Frankie Wanamaker, Megan McFaul (Dan), Marty Keppler (Steph); doting great-grandfather of 13 with one “on the way.” Bill was a devoted parishioner to St. Anselm and St. Mary Chardon Catholic Parishes and shared his faith with his family. He enjoyed Cleveland baseball. He was proud to support and root for his grandchildren at their sporting events. With his love of sports, Bill coached football and basketball for the Newbury Schools for many years. His family brought so much joy to his life. Whether it was a family picnic, clambake, or just a gathering, he loved to be there. Loyal, compassionate, loving, and a good listener are just a few characteristics that made Bill who he was. He will be missed by the many hearts he touched in his lifetime. Visitation for Bill will be held at Gattozzi and Son Funeral Home located at 12524 Chillicothe Road, Chesterland, Ohio 44026 on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 4pm until 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Catholic Parish (Chardon) located at 401 North Street, Chardon, Ohio 44024 on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 10 am. All family and friends are to meet at church. Burial will take place at All Souls Catholic Cemetery privately.
