He was born on May 23, 1941 in Boston, one of five children of Marnie and Bill Mettee.
He graduated from Middlebury College and the University of Rochester School of Medicine. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he completed Residency training at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
Moving to Cleveland in 1978, he served as Residency Director at Metrohealth Medical Center for six years.
For the last 25 years, he devoted his life to family practice in Chesterland. His home visits to patients, including an annual one from St. Nicholas, were a unique and integral part of his practice. More recently, he was instrumental in the development of HEARTS. (Homecare Education and Resource Teams)
He is survived by his wife Jan, his children Kim, Chris (Yamatzy), Jeff (Anne), five grandchildren, three brothers, and one sister.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Federated Church, 76 Bell St. in Chagrin Falls on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 12:00 noon.
