RICHARD J. CROWSON, BORN IN HOLYOKE, MA ON AUGUST 29, 1933, SON OF ELMER J. CROWSON AND ELORA (COLLINS) CROWSON BOTH ALREADY WITH THE LORD, HAS BEEN CALLED TO JOIN THEM ON JANUARY 2, 2015.
HE ATTENDED BLESSED SACRAMENT SCHOOL, JOSEPH METCALF AND GRADUATED FROM HOLYOKE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1951. HE JOINED THE US NAVY, ATTENDED SUBMARINE SCHOOL AT NEW LONDON CT. SUB BASE. HE WAS ASSIGNED TO THE USS WITEK DDE 848 AND RECEIVED AN HONARABLE DISCHARGE AS A KOREAN WAR VETERAN. IN 1954 HE JOINED THE NEW ENGLAND TEL & TEL CO AS A CABLE SPLICER, INSTALLER AND WAS PROMOTED TO SUPERVISOR OF MOTOR VEHICLES.
IN 1956 HE MARRIED HIS HIGH SCHOOL SWEETHEART JANICE E. LECLAIR WHO WAS CALLED HOME BY GOD IN OCTOBER 2006. THEY HAVE FIVE CHILDREN, KRISTY HEIL OF RICHMOND, VA, PAULA PERRY AND LAURIE GOODRICH OF CHESTER, RICHARD F. CROWSON OF SPRINGFIELD AND ROBERT J. CROWSON OF ATHENS,VT. HE ALSO LEAVES HIS SISTER, MARGARET M. CROWSON OF SOUTHWICH, MA. HIS BROTHER ROBERT F. CROWSON PREDECEASED HIM. HE IS SURVIVED BY GRANDCHILDREN, KERRI DAMONE, ROBERT, JARED AND MATTHEW CROWSON, MEGAN CARRIER, JOSHUA CROWSON, RYAN GOODRICH, LINDSEY POLLARD, EVAN AND ERIC HEIL ALONG WITH 17 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN.
IN 1968 HE JOINED THE RANKS OF THE VERMONT STATE POLICE AS A TROOPER 2/C RETIRING IN 1988 AS A DETECTIVE SGT. HE WAS VICE PRESIDENT AND TREASURER OF THE VSP TROOPERS ASSOC. AND PAST MEMBER OF THE BARGAINING UNIT. IN 1991 HE WAS APPOINTED CHIEF OF POLICE IN HIS HOMETOWN OF CHESTER, VT RETIRING AGAIN TO TAKE A POSITION AS A FEDERAL COURT SECURITY OFFICER FOR THE US MARSHAL SERVICE IN BRATTLEBORO, VT UNTIL 2002. HE WAS A EUCHARISTIC MINISTER AT ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH IN CHESTER, VT. HE HELD MEMBERSHIPS IN THE VT RETIRED TROOPERS ASSOC; VT RETIRED STATE EMPLOYEES ASSOC;VT FEDERAL COURT SECURITY OFFICERS ASSOC; NATIONAL TROOPERS ASSOC; AMERICAN LEGION POST 67, CHESTER, VT.
SERVICES WILL BE HELD 11:30 AM WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 7, 2015 AT ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, ROUTE 103, CHESTER, VT.
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS DONATIONS MAY BE MADE TO ST. JOSEPH'S CHURCH, CHESTER, VT. Adams Funeral Home, Chester is assisting the family with arrangements.
