It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wayne Raymond Shalles, age 79, of St. Paul, Minnesota, who left this world on February 17, 2024. Born on September 9, 1944, Wayne lived a life filled with adventure, passion, and a deep devotion to his faith and family.
Wayne was a man of extraordinary character, known for his zest for life and unwavering commitment to the Lord. At the age of 32, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and from that moment on, he dedicated much of his life to sharing his passion for the Lord with others.
Wayne’s adventurous spirit was evident in his various pursuits, from parasailing to waterskiing, hunting to golfing, and being a tournament fisherman; he approached every activity with gusto. Utilizing his love for fishing, Wayne not only enjoyed the sport himself but also used it as a means to invest in and mentor others.
Wayne was not only an outdoorsman but also a skilled entrepreneur. The majority of his working years were dedicated to Waldorf/Rock Tenn where he worked until he retired. However, he was always pursuing and learning new things such as co-owning a concrete business, crafting and selling his own fishing lures, and marketing his own fishing guide business.
Married for 59 years to his high school sweetheart, Sylvia Shalles, Wayne was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He embraced life with enthusiasm. One of Wayne's greatest passions was his love for people. He had a generous heart and was always the first to extend an invitation or lend a helping hand. Wayne's kindness and compassion touched the lives of many making a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know him.
Wayne is survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia, and their three children: Scott Shalles (Audra), Lynn Nichols (Scott), and Kelly Love (Adam). He cherished the title of "Papa" and leaves behind ten grandchildren: Addison, Caleb, Ellington, Micah, Emmarie, Isaac, Evaline, Eva, Sophia, and Elijah. Wayne is also survived by his brother, Bruce Shalles and sister, Arlene Felt. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Shalles and his mother, Kay Anderson.
A celebration of Wayne's life will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 11:30 am at the First Baptist Church of St. Francis located at 22940 St. Francis Blvd. NW, St. Francis, MN 55070.
