He was born on December 11, 1927 in Easton, PA, the son of August and Sarah Charles (both deceased).
He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U S Navy 1944-1947 in the Pacific aboard activity in the Okinawa and Philippine liberation. He finished his tour of duty on the carrier USS Boxer.
He settled in Reno NV for 35 years. In Reno/Lake Tahoe he was associated with Gray Line Tours as VP and General Manager.
Following that Vic and an associate established American Transportation Insurance Services specializing in insurance for the motor coach industry.
He was an avid boater, first in lakes near his Nevada home, then to the more challenging waters of the Pacific coast. He continued his love of boating east to the Gulf Coast of Florida, Lake Wylie in South Carolina, and finally the “low country”of the Georgia Empire Coast.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years Vivian (Austin) and four daughters by previous marriages. Vickie and Cheryl of Reno, NV, Andrea of Tampa, FL, Ruth of Tatamy, PA, 5 grandchildren and 4 great granddaughters.
With his marriage to Vivian Austin came an extended family of 2 sons and a daughter, Charles, Stephen and Beth Austin; along with 2 grandsons and a granddaughter.
Vic’s surviving siblings are sister Virginia of Everett WA, sister Dolly McVey of Reno, brother Robert of CA and sister Marjorie also of CA.
The family will receive at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East Brainerd Chapel Monday June 2ndfrom 5:30 to 7:00 closing with a short celebration of life service.
