
Rev. Sam Chastain, 85, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 4, 2011. A native of Athens, TN, he has been a resident of the Chattanooga area most of his life. A member of the Philadelphia Baptist on Oakhill Road, he and his wife served as Missionaries in the Caribbean for 25 years. He loved studying the Bible and was very knowledgeable about the New World Order. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was the son of the late Elijah and Esther Chastain. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Moore, Reba Chastain and Mary Sue Lyons, Brother, Charles Chastain. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Marjorie Chastain; daughter, Mary Carolyn (Ted) Benjamin, Bowling Green, OH; two grandchildren, Marcus and Ashley Benjamin; twin sister, Jessie Chastain, Chattanooga; brother, Roy Chastain, Ooltewah. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Mt. Paran Baptist Church, 1319 Moss Drive, with Pastor Randy Petersen and Dr. Dennis Bellew officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Chattanooga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist International Missions, Inc. at bimi.org. The body will lie in state at the church one hour before the service. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Highway.
