On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, while surrounded by his family Ralph Howard Lovell Jr., "Pappy”, peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home. Howard was a lifelong resident of Ooltewah, TN, until he moved to Benton, TN, in the fall of 1997. Howard was a light to all those he met and the definition of a loyal, honest, generous, and kind man. He had many friends and acquaintances, was loved by all who knew him and never met a stranger. His warm smile and humble personality were acknowledged by anyone who had the pleasure of talking with him. Howard loved singing and sharing God's word through Providence, Beech Springs, and Shiloh Baptist churches as well as singing bass in a bluegrass gospel group, The Liberty Boys, and a couple quartets. He was well known for his love of John Deere tractors, Ford trucks, and riding motorcars on old railroad tracks. Howard faithfully attended and helped anywhere he was needed in the annual Southeast Old Threshers Reunion. His work started at the Electric Power Board, then moved on to Shell Oil Company, as a truck driver. He left Shell to start a sawmill/logging operation and hog farming with his best friend/cousin Randall "Chief" Stulce. Later Howard would go on to start Lovell Logging a current business continued by his son. His ingenuity/proficiency in anything he did was a testament to his genius mind and willingness to learn. Howard was a true patriarch for his family and enjoyed orchestrating an annual Lovell reunion, preparing the meal on his old wood stove. A devoted Christian, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents: Ralph and Gladys Lovell; his sisters: Claire Yon, Janice Brown, and his second wife Sheila Lovell. Howard is survived by his first wife Mable Rogers-Black and their four children: Sandra Lovell-Pomeroy, Deborah Lovell-Hullender(Mike), Howard Lovell III (Barbara), and Jamie Lovell-Hafley (Fred); his grandchildren: Lara McTaggart (Chris), Jared Pomeroy (Sarah), Kara Burris (Justin), Michael Hullender Jr., Chad Hullender (Gina), Kelsey Hullender, Haley Hullender, Mikaela Polk (Kamonte), Hannah Hobbs (Josh), Collin Lovell (Savannah), Jackson Lovell, Trey Hafley(Kayla), Tyler Hafley(Shaelyn), Tanner Hafley; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
