Mrs. Moore was born on November 24, 1934 to Mr. & Mrs. John Herschel (Helen) Hawkins of Chattanooga. She was the sibling of two brothers and four sisters.
Peggy graduated Valedictorian from Howard High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Alabama A&M University. While in college, she pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,Incorporated.
She received her Masters of Education from The Toledo University.
In 1955, Peggy married the love of her life, Russell Moore, Sr. This union was blessed with three children, two sons and one daughter.
Mrs. Moore and her family moved to Toledo, Ohio where she continued serving as a dedicated and devoted educator, spiritual leader and missionary.
Mrs. Moore was adamant about quality education for the youth. Her educational career included Robinson Junior High School, Ella P. Stewart Elementary, DeVeaux Elementary, principal at Nathan Hale Elementary and educational developer at the Save Our Children Learning Center(Family Baptist Church).
Peggy’s desire to serve the Kingdom of God was rendered through her many involvements with various church congregations as the minister of music, Sunday School teacher, Bible Study group leader and innumerable help to all. Church involvements included, however, not limited to, service at Mt. Zion Baptist (Rev. E. Benton); Third Baptist (Rev.L.Bannister); First Church of God (Rev. Robert Culp) and Family Baptist (Rev. Floyd Rose).
Mrs. Moore retired from the public school system to pursue full time ministry. Her love for God and desire to lead souls to Christ was manifested in all she did. The Body of Christ Fellowship was birth in her and her husbands home in 1988 at 1929 Parkdale, Toledo OH. She developed The Body of Christ Learning Center and remained a devoted Pastor and administrator until she retired in 2005.
Her work for The Kingdom included missionary missions in Hatti and London. She was an advocate for inner city adolescents, a prayer warrior for prison/jail and nursing home ministries. She developed and directed countless other Christian organizations through out her life time.
Peggy moved back to her hometown of Chattanooga Tenn. where she continued to give spiritual guidance, financial support and any means of service in the advancement of God’s kingdom. She had a spirit of excellency in all she did. If she put her hand to the work she insisted that it was done to the very best of one’s ability. She always said “ Do what is right, and do it right”.
Peggy received the Lord Jesus as her personal savior at a young age and she lived a beautiful life of Godly discipline,sacrifice, service and obedience to what she believed was right in his sight. She fed the hungry,gave drink to the thirsty,took in the stranger,clothed the naked and visited the prisoner. She loved The Lord with all her heart and served Him with all her might. She served with an excellent spirit. She never took the Masters Glory nor touched His gold. She preached, taught and held revival all over the world and always refused to take any pay. Her message was the same wherever she went.. REPENT and be saved through faith in the finished work of JESUS THE CHRIST! Her labor is completed and she has gone on to her eternal rest with her Savior.
Peggy’s parents, loving husband, three grandchildren (Jamar Moore, John D Moore and Bertrisha Moore), five siblings (Juanita Swain, Herschel Hawkins, Betty Hawkins, James L. Hawkins and Louise Hawkins) god sister Bertha Kynard and one nephew (Ralph Swain) also preceded her in rest.
Peggy is survived by her sons, Russell Moore, Jr. (Chattanooga, TN) and Bruce Moore (Montana); daughter, Berdenia Moore (Toledo, Ohio); 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; Goddaughter, Regina McGee Hill (Toledo, Ohio); sister, Helena Benn (Chattanooga, TN); a multitude of cherished sons, daughters, mothers and fathers in Christ; several nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
She loved as much as she was loved. She will be forever Loved, missed, dearly thought of and held close to our hearts.
Peggy wishes was to have no services. Peggy will be laid to rest with her husband in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
