On June 25th 1969 the world became a brighter place when Missy (Varnell) McCulley Wilson was born in Chattanooga, Tn. She was the only child of her loving parents Leon and Judy Varnell and would remind anyone she was the only child. She grew up loving going on endless trips with her mother as well as fishing and being daddy’s little girl as well. Missy loved softball and skating as well as other sports and graduated from East Ridge High School.
After High School she began her next mission of love with the birth of what she always called her precious boys Brandon and Connor McCulley. She told endless stories of them, attended every one of their functions she could attend and would light up brightly every time they walked into her presence.
Missy continued her loving spirit working for the for Hamilton County schools assisting the Apison Elementary School Principle where she was the first to wipe a toddlers runny nose and hold the forehead of a small child sick to their stomach. She loved these children as her own and was the first to comfort any of them.
In 2006 she brought her loving spirit to her second family. The family in blue when becoming a secretary at the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. Before too long all the deputies begin to call her mom opening up the famous Missy Mart where she kept anything a deputy might need from bandages to crackers, aspirin or cookies. She loved her brothers and sisters in law enforcement so deeply. Even though she didn’t have to she always listened to the scanner and on serious calls she contacted the deputy after the call was over to ask them if they were ok.
Her bright light continued at the excitement she had when her grandchildren Grayson, Declan and Chase were born. She loved these children dearly fighting through pain and weakness to spend time with her proud treasures. She also received (5) Step-Children who she loved as her own. You see Missy’s soft spot has always been children and her extended family in blue.
In 2015 she began her long battle with cancer and worked continually through 2019 even though she was eligible for disability at the time of her diagnosis. She worked when she was not feeling well, had a hard time getting out of bed, along with fighting weakness but because she loved her job so deeply along with the men and women in blue she continued on. The hardest day of her life was when she could not physically work with them anymore.
Missy never discriminated with love and her warmth could not only be perceived but absorbed by all including her pets Abby, Annabel and Cruiser.
Missy’s light went out on October 14th 2019 but the fire she lit is stronger and brighter than ever.
Missy was proceeded in death by her father Charles Leon Varnell
