Mary Catherine Tallant

She was born October 11, 1935, in Apison, Tennessee to the late Oran C. and Ruby Bates. She was also preceded in death by step sister, Gail Stephens and step brother, Ronnie Cooper.

She graduated from the University of Chattanooga with a degree in microbiology. She worked in the lab for Erlanger Hospital for over 3o years.

Mary enjoyed planting flowers and working in her floral garden. She also loved taking care of the flowers at church. She was an accomplished pianist and organist and loved playing for church and various events.

She was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and the Harvest Sunday School Class. She was also a loyal member of the Judge David Campbell Chapter of the DAR.

She is survived by her loving husband, Carl E. Tallant, of Ooltewah, TN, two daughters, Mary Jane (Dale) Fitzgerald, of Ooltewah, TN, Carla (Kent) McCrary, of Ringgold, GA, three grandchildren, Walker Fitzgerald, Cole McCrary, Kailey McCrary, step brother, David (Peggy) Cooper, step brother-in-law, Ken Stephens, a niece and a nephew.

The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thanks to all the caregivers who helped Mary Catherine.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 21, 2022, in Ooltewah Cemetery with Dr. Doug Plumlee officiating.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m., Sunday, November 20, 2022, at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
