She was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to the late José and Lindaelde de Souza and was preceded in death by her husband, John Lopes and grandson, John Andrew Lopes.
After graduation from high school, Mary worked as a teletype operator and then as a stay at home mom. She later worked for Kraft Foods in Chicago in the executive kitchen. Her greatest joy was being a caregiver to her grandchildren.
She was a member of Ooltewah Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Survivors include her three children, Ida Hinck (Daniel), of Higdon, AL, Linda Elliott, of Dayton, TN, Bryan Lopes (Christina), of Ooltewah, TN, seven grandchildren, Avionne, Timothy, Danida, Kimberly, Christopher, Geoffrey, Emily, and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm, Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at the Ooltewah Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Peter Kulakov officiating. She will be buried privately in Collegedale Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at the church.
