Linda Gail Simmons Posey

Linda Gail Simmons Posey, 78, of Chattanooga, TN. died July 29, 2023. Linda, daughter of Ruthie Mae (Brown) Simmons (deceased) and Thomas Lee Simmons (deceased), passed away at Erlanger East Hospital.

Linda was a fierce survivor of cancer, a widow of 29 years, a mother of four and a grandmother of three. She was a devoted member to Northside Church of Christ and then Mountain Creek Church of Christ. She worked more than 52 years as a secretary for James Wilson Company. She was also presented with a life membership to the Chattanooga Area Mom of Multiples Club.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Ruthie Mae Simmons (1983), father, Thomas Lee Simmons (1970), husband Thomas Edward Posey (1994), brothers Charles “Jerry” Simmons (2009) and Tom Simmons (2019).

She is survived by sons Mark Vercellotti of Stevenson, Alabama, Garry Lee Posey and Brandon Turner Posey and CJ all of Chattanooga, TN and Larry Thomas Posey and Beckie of Lafayette, GA. In addition, she is survived by two grandsons, Jude Turner Posey and Luke Edward Posey and one granddaughter, Olivia Brooke Posey.

Linda was a member of the 1962 graduating class of East Ridge High School and a long-time resident of both East Ridge and Red Bank. Linda was a constant in the lives of so many people, regardless of her personal struggles. She was known as a regular attendee at church, attended school plays and athletic events of her children, her grandchildren and the children and grandchildren of many of her friends. She loved helping others, especially children, and especially during the holidays. She loved Little Debbies, cookies and Dark Chocolate Covered Cherries (not milk chocolate). She loved her friends, she loved her family, and she loved her Lady Vols…and Elvis. She had a sense of humor, an infectious laugh, and a genuine smile.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a contribution in her name to Mountain Creek Church of Christ, 985 Runyan Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37405 to support their ministries which provide Christmas gifts for local children and the elderly in nursing homes, and the backpack program that provides food for local students. Contributions may also be made in her name to support the Ensemble Theatre of Chattanooga, 1307 Dodds Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37404.

A celebration of life will be held at 6:00 pm on Friday, August 4th, 2023 at Chattanooga Funeral Home – East Brainerd Chapel with Gary Massey officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm prior to the service.
