He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee C. and Minola Thompson.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Townsend Thompson, daughter, Linda Thompson of Brentwood, TN, son, Patrick Thompson (Jere) of Ringgold, GA, three grandchildren, Allyson Howard (Branch), Ben Thompson, Natalie Schnell (Ben), three great-grandchildren, sister, Betty Thompson Wilson (Lee) of Oakland, TN and brother, Thomas Thompson, of Memphis, TN.
Lee graduated from the University of Memphis with BBA and MA degrees. He served in the Navy and was in education for over 30 years as a teacher and coach at Humes High School and as an Assistant Superintendent of Memphis City Schools. After retirement, Lee was president of Harrison Contracting Company. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church and was a certified lay preacher. Lee was past president of the Memphis chapter of the American Red Cross and active in other civic and education organizations. He loved playing gospel and country music, hunting, and flying his airplane.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service immediately following on Thursday, February 4, 2021, at Providence Baptist Church, 4351 N. Germantown Pkwy, Arlington, TN, 38002. Pastor Kelly E. Smith will be officiating. The immediate family only will then proceed to the burial which will follow at Memphis Memory Gardens on Raleigh LaGrange Rd.
Due to the current pandemic, we respectfully ask that those in attendance wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines set forth by the CDC. The facility will be arranged to facilitate this request.
