Joyce Thomas Carter

On June 19, 1942, she was born to Lavonia Suttles and Acie Thomas in Chattanooga, Tennessee. After completing her education in the Hamilton County School System in Tennessee, she migrated to Long Beach, New York, where she resided for 25 years. It was during this period that she met the love of her life, Willie C. Carter, whom she later married. She returned to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she worked in a variety of fields until she retired in 2007.

The most important thing to Joyce was being devoted to "loving her babies" Ty-Ty & Tristan. While she enjoyed dancing, shopping, playing bingo, cooking, and entertaining, the majority of her time and energy was spent on them, including her big baby, Kenyatta.

Joyce Thomas Carter, who was predeceased by cherished members of her family is now reunited with her parents Lavonia Suttles and Acie Thomas; brothers Fred Turner and Huedon Robertson; grandmother Audie Belle Freeman, three nieces and three nephews with whom she is once again finding comfort in their loving embrace.

She is survived by her sisters, Mildred Hicks and Thelma Holloway; brother Frizzell Thomas. Although Joyce did not have children of her own, she leaves to cherish her memory a loving niece Kenyatta (Tyrone) Lyons of Fayetteville, NC; goddaughter Tina Cruse, NY; nephews Anthony Troupe, NY, Tyrone Jr. and Tristan Lyons, NC; Randall Hicks, Willie Hammonds, Timothy and Tone Turner, CO; niece Tina Turner as well as a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 22, 2023, 1-3 pm at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services, Franklin-Strickland Chapel.

Funeral service will be held on Friday at 3 pm in the funeral home chapel.
