Joyce was a pillar of the Hixson community for over 47 years. She attended Red Bank High School and graduated Middle Tennessee State University with a Master’s Degree in Education . She taught elementary education for nearly 40 years in Georgia and Tennessee with the majority of her time teaching at DuPont Elementary School in Chattanooga.
In addition to her domestic teaching, she also traveled abroad and taught students internationally through the English Language Institution in Zhengzhou and Beijing China.
Joyce was also an accomplished home builder and landlord. During Summer breaks from school, she independently built homes. She built approximately 20 houses in the Chattanooga area.
She is survived by her sons Cameron Mitchell Plumlee and Hunter Todd Plumlee, her granddaughter Cameron Blaire and great grandson Colbe Major, and sister Mary Ann Grogan, along with many nieces and nephews.
Joyce was the rock that anchored her family and the glue that held it together. She was a very giving person that eagerly helped anyone in need and she was always open to taking on new challenges. She was our Queen.
A Memorial Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 pm on September 24, 2022 at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Hixson TN.
Continuing her giving spirit, Joyce requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
