He was preceded in death by his father, John Franklin Shirley
John was a veteran of the US Army having served as a Sergeant. He was stationed in Korea and served during the Vietnam War. He worked as an auto mechanic for many years in the Chattanooga area and was a huge Tennessee Vols fan.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Renee Shirley, of Ooltewah, TN, two sons, J. C. and Jerome Shirley, two step-sons, Mark Hastings, Jr., of Shanghai, China, Paul (Sandra) Dickson, Jr., of Ooltewah, TN, mother. Georgia Shirley, of Ringgold, GA, sister, Frankie (Ken) Lott, of Charleston, SC, two brothers, Donald (Deborah) Shirley, of Lafayette, GA, Tom (Rita) Shirley, of Soddy Daisy, TN, five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August, 18, 2020, at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 19, 2020, in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor Carl Hubbert officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery.
