John (“Johnny”) Hobson Crook III, age 77 of Ooltewah, TN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 20 at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga surrounded by his family. He was born to John Hobson Crook Jr and Jeanne (Lockwood) Crook in Chattanooga in 1946. John was a 1964 graduate of Tyner High School where he played basketball and baseball earning a baseball scholarship to Tennessee Technological University where he later graduated. After college, he went back to his alma mater to serve as a high school teacher and head baseball coach. John spent most of his working career at Krystal Company and US Xpress.
Mr. Crook was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his son Tanner (Erin) Crook of Chattanooga. John was also survived by two loving sisters Linda Martin of Tulsa, OK and Maridon (Donnie) Sweeton of Chattanooga. He leaves behind his grandson Asher Hobson Crook and a soon-to-arrive granddaughter. John is also survived by niece Katherine Martin of Tulsa, OK and nephews Collin (Leah) Martin of Philadelphia, PA and Taylor (Taylor) Sweeton of Chattanooga.
The family will receive friends Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 12:00 - 2:00 PM at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 2:00 PM in the East Brainerd chapel with Jim Greeson officiating.
