James is originally from Chattanooga, Falling water area. James attended Hardy High School.
James enlisted in the Army in 1965 and was stationed at Fort Huachuca in Sierra Vista, Arizona, and Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, NC. He was stationed in Vietnam from 1967-1968.
He was awarded The National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal. He served with the 426th Signal Battalion in the Third United States Army (TUSA).
James is survived by his daughter, Virginia Gibson, of Soddy Daisy, TN. His granddaughter Ashley Gibson Eller (Harrison), of Chattanooga, and his grandson James Sliger of Soddy Daisy. His granddaughter Jessica (Tyler) Cross. His sister Loretta Songer of South Pittsburg, TN. He is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Gipson; his mother, Effie Gipson; his wife, Angie Gibson; his son, David Gibson Jr; his daughter, Jessica Gibson; his sisters, Shirley Green; and Charlene Davidson.
The family will then have a graveside service at Chattanooga Memorial Park for James' final resting place
