He was born in Los Angeles County California on July 3, 1947. Harry has lived many places across the country such as California, Alaska, Oklahoma, Kansas, Indiana and settled in Chattanooga, TN.
At a young age, Harry worked for Glen Bell at the original Taco Bell. Harry started with mainly cleaning duties and through hard work and dedication to his job, he continued to grow with the Company. While Working at Taco Bell in Kansas, he met his future wife, Marjorie “Marge” Gilley (Lord) and future business partner David Porter. After years of traveling the country and working in several stores, Harry was offered an opportunity to have his own store and he chose Chattanooga. Harry was the President of HBG Enterprises and continued opening many stores in the Chattanooga and surrounding areas. His stores won many awards for being some of the best Taco Bell’s in the country. After retiring Harry enjoyed riding motorcycles, traveling, hunting and fishing as well as spending time with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Betty Langford Gilley.
Harry was survived by his two children, Marlo Gilley-Lowry and spouse, Lee Lowry and Harold “Ben” Benjamin Gilley Jr.; four grandchildren, Shandi Gilley-Johns and spouse, Allan Johns, Jessica Chambers, Jason Gilley and Trey Birchfield; four great-grandchildren, Jada Chambers, Lexi Chambers, Serena Johns, Quinton Johns; grandson-in-law, Chris Chambers; sister-in-laws, Carolyn Porter and Sheryl Lord; and many nephews and nieces.
The family will be receiving friends from 4 ~ 7 PM Saturday, April 6, 2024.
