After moving to Florida, she attended Forest Lake Academy, she became an elementary schoolteacher in Florida where Grace met Kenneth Padgett, a serviceman. The couple married in 1954, moved to Ooltewah, Tennessee and raised three sons.
Grace worked in the billing department for 32 years at McKee Foods and was a member of the McDonald Road Seventh-day Adventist Church where she was known to tell children’s stories that always involved animal characters and their adventures.
She retired to Garden Plaza of Green Briar Cove with her collection of stuffed animals and enjoyed several years among many new friends and neighbors. She could be seen regularly on the sidewalks of four corners where she loved to ride her red scooter chair. Grace suffered a fall at age 90 and later died peacefully on the morning of April 29, attended by her son.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Padgett; sister Freida Haingle and grandson Chris Padgett.
She is survived by her three sons Lloyd, Calvin and Alvin Padgett of Apison, Tennessee and their families as well as her nephew Larry Haingle of Illinois. Her grandchildren Robbie, Sonya, Amber, Haley, Dylan and Luke remember her as Grammy Padgett.
