George Brooks Nye

He was born in Scottsboro, Alabama. He graduated from Central High School and attended UTC. He was a member of Christ United Methodist as well as several fraternal organizations. He was a Past Patron of Sunnyside OES, Past Master of Brainerd Lodge, a 33rd Degree Mason, and Past Potentate of Egypt Temple Shrine in Tampa, Florida. While living in Florida, he was ordained as a Lay Reader of the Episcopal Diocese and retired as comptroller with Lokey Motors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mildred, brothers, Harold, Jr., Todd and Fred and sister, Frances.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Rogers Nye, two daughters, Dot (Mike) Kuhne, Ginger (Larry) McMillen, four grandchildren, Bridget (Anthony) Diaz, Kim (Scott) Stone, Kelley (Scott) McAllister, Ryan McMillen, eight great grandchildren, and a brother, Bill (Phyllis) Nye.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Christ United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Flynn officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson, Tennessee, with Masonic rites being conducted at the cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Egypt Temple Shrine Transportation Fund, 4050 Dana Shores Drive, Tampa, Florida 33634, Christ United Methodist Church Building Fund, or Hospice of Chattanooga.
