Ethan Tobias Geer passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 29th at the age of 47. Toby, as he was affectionately called by his family, was born on November 21, 1972 in Rio, Georgia. He graduated from Ringgold High School in 1991 and attended Macon State College. Toby was an incredible person to know. He was a talented carpenter and it was commonly said there was nothing he could not build, design, improve or fix. Although his work was important to him, Toby's true dedication in life was to his family. It wasn't uncommon to find him scrolling through his phone, showing off pictures of his children to cashiers, bank tellers, or anyone he happened to meet. His idea of a perfect night was to be at home on the couch with his wife, all of his children scattered through the house, and if it was a really perfect night, with a winning Georgia game on the TV. The little things mattered to Toby. The mornings drinking coffee on his back porch, helping his kids with homework, making sure he ate dinner at the table with his family every night. These things mattered to him. His laughter, his kindness, his love will be greatly missed by those who truly knew him. He always placed the needs of others ahead of his own. In his desire to care of everyone else, he often lost sight of how to take time for himself. He struggled to see that who he already was as a father, a husband, a son, a brother, and a friend were all he ever needed to be. He is leaving behind and empty space in the hearts and lives of his family and friends, but those closest to him will forever be blessed by the love he brought into their lives.
Toby is survived by his loving wife, LeAnn Geer. Children Kinsey Geer, Jake DiChiacchio, Mac Geer, Mary Kate Geer, Ali Geer and Lydia Geer, Parents Luke and Leta Geer, siblings Julie, Ben, Fred, and Becky, and a long list of friends and extended family who held very special places in his life. A private service and burial was held on Saturday at Chattanooga Memorial Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services, 1724 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, TN, 37404, 423-265-4414.
