He lived a full life in his 84 years. He was born in Pasadena, CA. He was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. Which lead him to a career where he served in Vietnam and Gulf War. He Graduated from Maryland University and received his master’s at Western Kentucky University.
He retired as a Lt. Colonial. Receiving Bronze Star, Meritorious service medal, Army Commendation Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster), Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Vietnam Service Medal Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon and Army Overseas Service Ribbon during his Military career.
He then continued working in Civil service until his retirement. He then started volunteering in Chattanooga community. He was proud to say, “20 plus years at the aquarium”.
His true passion was his family, fishing, volunteering, genealogy and eating sweets.
Survived by Daughter Julie Green Cargile (Tim) their children Troy Joseph Cargile, Jake Thomas Cargile and Anna Belle Cargile and Son Eric Robert Green.
Doris’s Children Judith Anne deRose (Pete) and Brian Walter Davis (Rachel), grandchildren Joshua Brian deRose (Heather) Matthew Paul deRose (Maryelle) Ethan Parker deRose (Melanie) and Shelby Ryan Davis (Luke) and great grandchildren Hayden Liam deRose , Logan Andrew deRose, Mia Joy deRose, Jeremiah Matthew deRose and Haven Grace deRose.
Preceded in death by his mother Phyllis Evelyn (Schaeffer) Green and Sister Georgella (GiGi) Sortwell.
Funeral services will be held at 12 pm, Monday, April 17, 2023, at First Baptist Church, 401 Gateway Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37402, with Dr. Thomas Quisenberry officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors being conducted.
The family will receive friends from 10 am to 12 pm, Monday, at the church, prior to the funeral service.
