

David Michael “Mike” Hassell (80) was born on July 17, 1943 in Hermosa Beach, California to Forrest Leon Hassell and Bertha Mae Ozee. He was raised in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he met his wife, Jo Ann Christian, as high school sweethearts. Mike graduated from Wichita Falls Senior High in 1961. He attended Texas Christian University and then graduated from Midwestern State University with a B.S. in Mathematics. This led him to a career in the computer industry in its early stages, which included the NASA Apollo Project.
After retiring in 2008, he and his wife moved to Tennessee, where he had previously worked in large main frame computer sales. Beyond his professional achievements, Mike was a talented musician and Civil War history buff. He loved the Smoky Mountains and was happy living near them in his retirement.
Mike passed away at home in Ooltewah, Tennessee, surrounded by loved ones on October 25, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann; their children Chris Hassell (Chuck) of Springfield, Virginia, and Melissa Kohlhof (Vic) of Burlington, Iowa; three granddaughters, Christi Mendenhall (Lee), Dani Isenberg (Gabriel), Grace Kohlhof; four great grandsons; brother Robert Hassell of Wichita Falls, Texas; several nieces and nephews.
