RET. SGM CLARENCE B. JONES SR.

Mr. Jones enlisted into the United States Army at the age of 18. During his time in the Army, Mr. Jones served in the Vietnam War including 2 tours of Vietnam and 9 years overseas. The highlight of his 25-year Army career was his appointment as a member of President Johnson’s Honor Guard for 14 years. He retired as a Sergeant Major (SGM). After retiring from service, SGM Jones taught Military Science at the University of TN at Chattanooga for several years and from there he went on to teach JROTC at Central High School for 16 years. In his retirement SGM Jones enjoyed golfing and watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys.

His father, Charlie Turner Sr., mother, Juanita Turner, brothers, Van Edwin Turner and Charles Degualle Turner, daughter, Dawn Denise Jones precede him in death.

Left behind to cherish his memory is his loving wife of over 58 years, Azeline Jones; children, Sherry Payne (Tony), Clarence Jones Jr. (Candace), Crystal Burney (Monté); grandchildren, Ashley and Anthony Jones, Keisha and Charles Hunter Jr., and Bella Burney; great-grandchildren, Malcolm Smith, Alexa, Jaquay, Elijah and Breajah Hunter; great-great grandchildren, Brysen and Brylee Browning and Rayden Hunter, along with his loving siblings, Eric Turner, Paula Terry and Charlie Turner Jr. and many nieces & nephews.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm on Thursday, March 14, 2024 in the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military honors at 1:00 pm.
