Charles Lewis Patterson, 78, of Ooltewah went to be with his Lord, Sunday, February 5, 2023. He was born May 18, 1944 in Aniston, Alabama to the late L.C. and Gladys Patterson. A daughter, April Grace, and siblings, Mary L Clifton Mustafa, Costln J Clifton, Catherine Patterson, Nettie Jean Patterson, Mitchell Patterson and Gwendolyn Patterson preceded him in death.
He was retired from the US Air Force, where he earned the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 5 devices, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with 4 devices, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a member of the American Legion, Post #257. Charles was a faithful Fields Chapel AME Zion church member for twenty-four years.
He earned an Associate in General Business Technology degree from Horry Georgetown Technical College, a certificate of Professional Achievement from AAFES for completing the Sales Associates Training, and a Certificate of Appreciation from Fields Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church for his contribution to Moments of Black History in 2006. Charles was a faithful Fields Chapel AME Zion church member for twenty-four year
He was an avid bowler, winning several awards including 11 strikes in a row, and four 300 games.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary Patterson, daughters, Kimberly Patterson and Dana (Mark) Fields, grandsons, Mark Fields, Jr, Zuriel Fields, and Elijah Fields, great granddaughter, Zoey’ Yara King, brothers, Claude (Dorothy) Clifton, Bobby Lee Patterson and Ralph Patterson, sisters, Myrtle Patterson.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-7 Tuesday, February 14
Funeral services will be 11:30, Wednesday, February 15 at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Reverend Gail Hendricks officiating. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
