Charles P. Park, of Ooltewah, passed away unexpectedly at his home Thursday, February 8, 2018. He had turned 69 the day before. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Fred B. and Patricia Criswell Park. He is survived by his brother John and wife Nancy of Lexington, KY as well as numerous cousins.
Charles, also known as Slim and Cousin Chuck, was big in height and big in heart. In his quiet, unassuming way, Charles made you happy and glad to be around him. He was a 1967 graduate of Tyner High School and served in the Army, 3rd Armored Division. After returning to Chattanooga, Charles completed boilermaker training and spent the remainder of his working years as a boilermaker working out of the Local 454.
He loved nothing better than spending time with his “Boilermaker Buddies”, also known as the Boiler Hogs. They made many trips from coast to coast – them on their motorcycles with Charles in his Ram truck following as escort. Charles loved NASCAR and collecting vintage cars. If it was a Mercury, Charles was interested.
Charles will be missed by his Tuesday poker buddies as well as all the cousins, young and old, that came to his pool. Charles had a deadly aim with a water cannon. He was an active and beloved member of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, Ooltewah.
Per Charles request, there will be no visitation. Graveside Services will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, February 13, 2018. The Boiler Hogs will provide escort and serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church (7555 Ooltewah-Georgetown Road, Ooltewah, TN 37363) or the Veteran’s association of your choice.
Arrangements are by the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist. 7414 Old Lee Highway, Chattanooga, TN 37421. Please share your condolences at www.chattanoogavalleyviewchapel.com
