We will miss your smile. Never did we walk into the room without you smiling at us. We are blessed because of you and life will be hard without you. You had a hand in making us all who we are. You showered us with love and gave endlessly.  Thank you for all the love Papaw. May a bit of you be in each of us. You will forever be in our hearts.


Those same children and grandchildren, along with his wife, carry on his legacy. A legacy they are proud to carry. Bill was a tender man that always believed in equality and compassion. He believed it was in giving that you receive. He gave to so many, showed compassion to all and sacrificed greatly for others. It was him that taught us all that there is nothing so gentle as real strength. A loving husband, father, and grandfather to many. He will be missed by all.

His children always knowing if there was a need, he was there.  He taught his children the value honest labor develops. Helping them to find pleasure in work, it was with his guidance they learned the satisfaction that comes from a job well done.  Alongside his developing career, he oversaw his family farm that included steers, pigs, chickens, and a full garden. It was these efforts that provided food for the large family. As paths changed, Bill’s marriage to Christine unfolded. In the years following, Bill retired and gifted all his property to his daughters. After a friend’s referral, Bill was urged to call a radiant woman named, Nancy McClure, who was said to be more selfless than one could imagine. Bill was intrigued, and phone calls became a daily occurrence with Nancy. With a bit of risk and unknown expectations, they set off on their first dinner date to Shoney’s after a series of phone calls. With more similarities than they thought two people could have, the couple fell deeply in love and married in March of 1986. A seamless fit into each other’s family, Bill and Nancy found more joy in their marriage than they had ever experienced. At the foundation of their joyful years was always the assurance of togetherness, the forgiveness of mistakes, and a promise to never give up on each other.  Bill and Nancy enjoyed fostering their family as Nancy developed her career as a nurse. Bill and Nancy were inseparable as Bill traveled alongside her during her years nursing. Bill continued to care for God’s creation as he watched over his cattle, passing along to his grandchildren his love for farming and gardening. Billy Eugene Robertson, age 87, passed away at his home in Ooltewah, encircled by the love of his family on April 20, 2018. He was born on December 18, 1930 in Scottsboro, Alabama, to his loving parents, William Harrison Robertson and Mamie Yarbrough Robertson. Share croppers out of necessity, the family of nine spent their days in the fields amid The Great Depression. During their years of meager provisions, pennies were counted as Bill attended a one room grade school. Bill’s parents refused to allow their doubts of the day to limit their tomorrow, encouraging Bill to graduate from Jackson County High School in 1950. It was that same year that Bill accepted Jesus at a Billy Graham Crusade. In the year following, Bill pursued further education at Edmondson Business School as his career developed at Dupont after a move to Chattanooga. During these years, Bill enjoyed basketball and caring for his parents. After a friend’s introduction, Bill met Christine Rhoden, and they married in 1951. Shortly thereafter they welcomed their first daughter, Sherry, in 1953. After completing his first years at Dupont, he served in the Air Force as The Korean War efforts came to an end. Resuming his position at Dupont upon his return, Bill focused on his growing family, farming, and when time allowed, he enjoyed pickup basketball games when the opportunities arose.   Together Bill and Christine had 4 daughters; Sherry, Bobbie, Debbie and Kay. They were the light of their home. Bill provided in any way he could for his children.
