Born December 29, 1934 in Johnson City, Tennessee, Bill was the son of the late Callie Reed. He grew up in Delano, Tennessee where he accepted the Lord as a teenager during a revival meeting. He graduated from Etowah High School and attended UTC. He joined the United States Air Force in 1955 and was honorably discharged from active duty in 1959. He continued to serve as a standby reservist until 1963. He married his wife of 57 years, Lucille Cook Reed on February 14, 1959. He worked in the Sales department for the Coca Cola Bottling Company for 36 years. He and his wife have been faithful members of Bayside Baptist Church for 26 years.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lucille; son Brian (Diane) Reed of Houston, Texas; daughter Janice (Joe) Hunter of Chattanooga, Tennessee; brother Kenneth (OC) Reed; and grandchildren, Zachary, April and Eric Reed; and Ryan, Shawn (Arielle) and Kyle Hunter.
The family will receive friends Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The funeral services will be held at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East Brainerd Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2016 with nephew, Reverend Joel Cook officiating along with Rev. Grady Cooper of Bayside Baptist Church. Interment will follow with military honors at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers are members of the Emmanuel Class at Bayside Baptist Church where Bill was an assistant teacher.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Chattanooga and Preferred Care at Home for the compassionate care they provided.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Bayside Baptist Church Missions Fund or your favorite charity.
