Bill Wing

He was born on January 27, 1932 in Bangor, Maine to the late Albert and Hilda Wing. Bill graduated from Moss High School in Bath, Maine and later graduated from Colby College in Waterville, Maine. While at Colby he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon. DKE is known for producing outstanding gentlemen, a scholar and a ‘jolly good fellow’. Bill definitely had all these qualities and then some. He went on to play baseball for Colby and in the summer months played semi-pro ball in the Maine-New Brunswick league. In 1954, Bill signed with the Boston Red Sox and played in the league for two years.

For the past 35 years, Bill and his wife, Sarah have been residents of Ooltewah and faithful members of Ridgedale Baptist Church and the Covenant Sunday School Class. He retired from General Electric after 39 years of service, where he was a sales manager in Virginia. However, because he preferred being outdoors and meeting people, he made the decision to return to sales in the Virginia and Tennessee area.

Bill was an avid outdoorsman and he loved to play golf. In his younger years, he would harpoon tuna out in the ocean at Boothbay Harbor Maine. Bill was proud of his Wing lineage and enjoyed telling stories about his family’s history. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Sarah Wing of Ooltewah, Tennessee; son, Steve (Cheryl) Wing of Billings, Montana; daughter, Diana (Dr. Daryl) Kaswinkel of Albany, Ohio; grandchildren, Christine, Spencer and Isabella; brother, David (Rosemarie) Wing, Carol Wing and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022 in the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A memorial service will follow at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022 at the funeral home with Pastor Doug Plumlee officiating.

Interment will be at a later date at Sherwood Burial Park in Salem, Virginia.
