Born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1923, Larry attended the University of Pittsburgh before joining the United States Navy in the early days of WW II. The Navy sent him to MIT to participate in the V-12 program, the prestigious Navy College Training Program. After commissioning as a Deck Officer, Larry was assigned to antisubmarine patrol craft where he deployed to the Pacific, spending most of his active duty days in the Philippines.
After completion of his Navy service in 1946 Larry married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Dill. He then completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1947. That same year he joined the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in White Plains, New York.

He was a life member the Million Dollar Round Table and President of the Westchester Life Underwriter Association. He also served for many years as a Director and President of the University Club of White Plains.
In 1955, he vacationed with his family on Cape Cod and soon thereafter built a summer home in Chatham. Upon his retirement from a successful business career, he moved with his wife to Chatham.
