Mary Kiladis Gould, 85, of Chatham passed away on October 9, 2015. She was born in Boston on April 3, 1930, the daughter of the late James and Vaselia Kiladis. Mary was raised in Somerville, Ma and graduated from Somerville High School. In 1952, Mary graduated from New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, she majored in piano.
While in college she worked summers at the Surfside Inn in Chatham and was introduced through a co-worker to her future husband Chester Gould. They married in 1953. Soon after marriage she started teaching piano lessons to area residents and continued until the mid-1960's.
Mary assisted her husband in running his business Gould's Fuel Oils in Chatham for many years by handling all the administrative duties that came with running a family business.
Mary was active in the Centerville MA Greek Orthodox Church serving on the Parish Council, many church committees and a member of the St. Katherine's Ladies Philoptochos Society. She was especially proud of her Greek heritage and the fact that along with her 2 brothers they were all college graduates from parents that had immigrated to this country.
Mary was an accomplished needlepoint artist that won many awards across the state and country. She was a member of the American Needlepoint Guild (ANG) and the Northeastern Region and National Organization of the Embroiders Guild of America (EGA).
She was an excellent cook and loved to cook for family and friends.
Mary was predeceased by husband Chester Gould in 1991 and brother Nicholas Kiladis of Baltimore, MD in 2014. She is survived by her daughter Valerie Gould Cottrell and her husband Benjamin Cottrell of Saratoga Springs, NY and son Harold "Chet" Gould of Chatham; grandchildren Kyle Gould (wife Desiree), Christopher Gould, Alissa Cottrell, Garrett Cottrell and Jenna Cottrell; brother John Kiladis and sister-in-law Trish Kiladis of Honolulu, Hi and Orleans, Ma and sister-in-law Mary Kiladis of Baltimore, MD. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, October 16th from 4-7 PM at Nickerson Funeral Home in Chatham. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
