South Chatham...
Heaven became more enriched with the passing of Margarett Martin Kennard early Wednesday
morning Oct. 3rd. PK (as she is known by her family and friends) was the wife of the late
Spencer P. Kennard, Jr. and a Chatham and South Chatham resident since 1968. PK is blessed
with 2 sons, 5 grandchildren and so far 10 great-grandchildren!
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 5th 1923, PK graduated from Miami University (Ohio) and has
a Music Master degree from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. She also studied at Berkshire

they married in Provincetown in 1949. Together their careers took them from Lenox to Saint

musical interests started with the flute, but her passion for English Handbells brought her
much recognition and fulfillment. Besides teaching music, other career accomplishments include
Librarian at Lenox Prep School, and head Librarian for the Lenox town Library.
PK served on the vestry of St. Christopher's Church and was a board member of their Gift and
Consignment Shop, served on the Chatham Housing Authority and the Chatham Arts Funding
Council, was a member of the Creative Arts Center, and was active with the Council on Aging
and Meals on Wheels programs.
PK painted furniture in a "folkart" style and worked with stained glass. She also loved golden
retrievers.
