Joseph Francis Griffin, of Falmouth, MA, passed away peacefully, on February 16, 2021, with beloved family and friends at his side. Joe fought a brave battle against Parkinson’s and cardiac diseases for many years. His last hours were spent enjoying time with family and friends.
Joe was born on July 28, 1941 in Washington, DC to Commander John Barry Griffin and Catherine (Connolly) Griffin. Joe grew up in Woburn, MA, graduating in 1959 from Woburn High School. Joe attended Norwich University in Northfield, VT and joined the United States Army Reserve. Joe earned his Bachelor Degree in Accounting at Bentley University in Waltham, MA. His long accounting career included positions with many companies in the New England area. Joe retired from MacDougall’s Cape Cod Marine Service in Falmouth, MA.
Joe is survived by his wife Genie (Hatch) Griffin, his sister Kathleen (Griffin) Hogan and his sister-in-law Rosemary (Ward) Griffin, nephews, nieces, cousins, and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother John (Jack) B. Griffin.
Joe was truly a Renaissance man. He loved to share his many interests and expertise with everyone. He enjoyed cars, motorcycles, boating, snorkel and scuba diving, running, photography, reading, movies – old and new, eating out and family gatherings. Second only to his love of family was his love of music. He has bequeathed his extensive vinyl collection to his nephews who have shared this joy with Joe. In recent years he enjoyed Wednesday morning breakfast with his many friends (the ROMEOS) in Falmouth.
A Celebration of Joe’s Life will be held this summer. In Joe’s memory, please consider performing a random act of kindness or making a donation in Joe’s name to assist the homeless and hungry people of the world. For online condolences, please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com.
