Helen A Kendrick, 91, passed away peacefully during her afternoon nap Sunday, February 9, 2020. She was born in North Truro to William & Rachel Forrest. Her father (Bill) was a Life Saver there and the family lived beside Highland Light. Before her high school years the family moved to Chatham. Helen graduated from Chatham High School and was the top student of her class all four years. After graduation, she was a legal secretary for Leroy Anderson, a local attorney. Helen then met and married Ivan S Kendrick in 1949 and built their home on Crowell Road. This property is now known as Kendrick Village on Kendrick Harvest way.
She later became a homemaker raising four children and taking care of many neighborhood children. Helen was very involved in Girl Scouts. She and her husband took them on many camping trip all over the Cape and Islands. They owned land in Harwich and turned it into Camp Kendrick for scouts.
Helen was a member of the Chatham Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and Chatham Fire Department Fireflies.
She was an avid bowler and loved to cheer on the Boston Celtics. Helen and Ivan enjoyed many trips throughout New England and Canada in their motor home.
She was the wife of the late Ivan S Kendrick for fifty-one years. She leaves behind three children; Christine A Archibald, Ivan S Kendrick, Jr and Diane Kendrick Rowlings and was predeceased by her daughter Eunice Harrigan. She also leaves siblings; Olive Bogue, Esther Masson and Sumner Forrest and the late Marion Kendrick. She had ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held from 10am-12pm, followed by a funeral service beginning at noon on Saturday, February 15th at Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Rd, Chatham. A burial will follow in Seaside Cemetery, Chatham.
