Mr. Scott was born and raised in Andover, NY; graduated from The Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA; and subsequently earned degrees from the University of Virginia and Cornell University.
Following service as a commissioned officer in the United States Army Counter-Intelligence Corps., Don began his working career which encompassed a variety of positions in higher education management. He served as Vice-President of Finance at Rochester Institute of Technology and at Wheaton College in Norton, MA, from which he retired in 1989.
Don held family as his primary value, followed by dedication to country and love of the natural world. He was an enthusiastic follower of both college and professional sports and was an avid golfer at Eastward Ho Country Club in Chatham. His primary avocation during retirement, however, was birding. He and his wife Carol traveled across the world in search of rare and beautiful birds, setting foot on all 7 continents and all 50 of the United States in so doing.
Mr. Scott is survived by Carol, his wife of 62 years; three children, Cynthia Lieblich and her husband Dan; Adam and his wife Brenda; and Meredith; as well as four grandchildren Brandon, Alison and Emma Lieblich and Olivia Scott.
Visiting hours will take place Thursday, July 27 from 5 to 8 pm at Nickerson Funeral Home, Chatham, MA. Burial service will be private.
In Don's memory, donations may be made to the Chatham Fire Department or Harwich Conservation and Land Trust.
